Ergo Proxy is Manglobe’s second animation project, immediately following Samurai Champloo, which ran in 2006. It is directed by Shukou Murase (Witch Hunter Robin) and written by Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop).
A modern noir cyberpunk sci-fi set in a distopian domed city, Ergo Proxy is focused on an immigrant android disposal worker named Vincent Law, who becomes a prime suspect in a series of grisly murders initially thought to be the work of virus-infected androids. Re-l Mayer, an inspector for the Citizen Intelligent Bureau of Romdeau, becomes obsessed with Vincent’s involvement and connection to the case, knowing the truth: that what is behind the murders is neither human nor robotic, but rather some creature known as a “proxy.”
Probably one of my favorite canons/stories of all time and hugely influential. Ergo Proxy is extremely undervalued, probably because it does take a certain degree of audience trust and rewatchability to appreciate it fully (it’s one of those series where the second watch is infinitely better than the first). I could go into all the things I love about it, and in the past I have, but I rather people just watch it.
FUNimation has the entire series subtitled available for viewing online: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o78vRCw84D8&list=ELZtzLXGkuq2A&feature=plcp
I recommend the English dub too, if you end up getting your hands on the box set. It’s also one of those series where the English dub is just as fantastic, if not more so, than the original Japanese.

Reblogging this because IT’S REALLY GOOD
I try to talk people into watching it all the time and maybe if it’s in a handy post instead of just a conversation, people might watch. It’s extremely existential and I love it.

Reblogging cause more need to watch this awesome show.
